# Web Identity

The meaning of this term is self-evident, but it's a concept that will be very important to the Network State movement and one that contains a lot of nuance and unexplored territory. Web identity describes a very broad concept, the existence of online identities that have some connection to actual people or human institutions.

#### *How is Web Identity relevant to the Network State?*

Currently, web identity is a bit nebulous and if there is a legal action involving a web identity, the target of that action will be an offline person or institution. In the Network State model, the web identity will interact more directly with the governance system and vice versa.
