# Blockchain

A blockchain is a tool for storing information. The information is grouped within time-stamped blocks connected sequentially forming a chain of information. Many participants store the information and participate in approving or denying proposed additions to the information thus providing the most rigorous possible way to create and store information securely and transparently. Blockchains make it possible to “trust” that information is uncorrupted without an element of faith, so they are sometimes called “[trustless](/wiki-network-state/dictionary/trustless.md).”

#### *How are Blockchains relevant to the Network State?*

Blockchains can give citizens direct access to see everything that is happening with the certainty that the data they are viewing is accurate.
